Are you a beginner looking for content writing jobs online? Don’t know where to start?
First, let me congratulate you for considering content writing as an option to make money online.
In my view, it is an excellent work from home opportunity to earn a regular monthly income with flexible working hours.
Additionally, it helps you to learn new things and increase your knowledge not only in your favorite niches but also in various categories like technology, finance, health etc.
Now, the next question is:
Where to find the content writing jobs online for beginners?
Freelancing sites?
For a beginner, I won’t recommend the freelancing job websites like Upwork, Freelancer etc where there will too much of competition for a beginner. Only very few clients on Upwork prefer beginners for creating content. And, the rest of them expects at least a 90% score and past writing experience on Upwork or other platforms.
Even if you apply for 10-15 jobs by quoting low rates, it may not help to get your first writing gig on Upwork.
Content mills?
Alternatively, you can try submitting articles in content mills like Constant content, Contentgather etc. However, they follow very strict guidelines for approving your work. If you write a couple of low-quality articles, then they will suspend your account and you will not be able to continue your work with them.
So, the best approach for a beginner is to get the projects by directly contacting the individual clients.
But, How do you find the individual clients who need your work?
Before applying for the content writing jobs from home…
Make sure you have all the things mentioned in the below checklist before you send your application for any kind of content writing job.
- A couple of Writing samples – If you own a blog, you can share the links to the good ones from that. Otherwise, you create an original and high-quality post ( 700-1000 words in length) on any topic you like.
- Copy of your latest resume
- A simple write-up which can explain the reason for applying for that job
- Availability or No of working hours (Daily/Weekly)
- Contact information( Email, Skype, Mobile)
- Preferred payment method (PayPal, Bank transfer etc)
Best Places For Beginners To Find Content Writing Jobs Online
Here is the list of places where you can find a lot of writing gigs which are posted regularly.
1. DigitalPoint
Digital Point is basically an online discussion where members share their knowledge on various topics like SEO, Affiliate marketing, Programming etc.

You might have heard about Reddit. It is one of the coolest community I have ever come across to know the latest information on any topic.
And, there is a dedicated subreddit named r/HireaWriter where you can find a lot of content writing gigs posted by companies or individuals.
Just look for the threads starting with [Hiring]. Alternatively, you can also create [For Hire] ads to sell your content writing services.
How to apply: Become a Redditor by creating a free account on Reddit. Then, browse the jobs listed on the “Hire a Writer” subreddit. If you find a relevant job, then just shoot a PM (Private Message) to the person who created the ad expressing your interest in the job.

Do you think Craigslist is only a place to buy/sell used cars? Not at all.
Irrespective of your location, you can find a lot of content writing job listings every day on Craigslist.
Locate your country/city from the homepage, click that and browse the following categories to find the job listings.
- Jobs->writing/editing
- Jobs->[part-time]
It is not necessary that you should apply for the ads only in your city as most of the content writing jobs can be done at home irrespective of your location.
Before applying for the job, read the description fully and double check that it is not a scam. Because some websites just create fake ads to drive traffic to them.
How to apply: Copy the email address mentioned in the ad and send an email expressing your interest in the job. Make sure you include the job title on the subject to get a quicker response.
